Sports & Clubs

Dear Eagle Families,

We’re excited to introduce five clubs that will meet during the 3rd and 4th Wednesday SOAR time each month! These clubs give students the opportunity to explore their interests, represent Greenwood Lakes, and even compete at the district and state levels.

If your student is interested in joining one of the clubs below, please encourage them to sign up with the teacher sponsoring the club.

📚 Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a district-wide reading competition held in April. Students will compete by answering trivia questions about the 15 Sunshine State Young Readers Award books they read throughout the school year.

Sponsor: Mrs. Atkins

📖 Read to Lead

Read to Lead is a district-wide reading competition held in April for students enrolled in Intensive Reading. Students will compete by answering trivia questions about two selected Sunshine State books they read this year.

Sponsor: Mrs. Merlet

🏛️ History Fair

All 8th-grade students will complete a History Fair project as part of their coursework, but this club is designed for students who want to take their project to the next level! Club members will receive additional support as they prepare to potentially advance to the District History Fair and even the Florida History Fair.

Sponsor: Mrs. Whitehead

➗ Math Festival

Math Festival is a district-wide competition held in April where students represent Greenwood Lakes and compete against other middle schools. Events include individual content tests, team content tests, a team engineering competition, and a school poster competition.

Sponsor: Ms. Armstrong

🔬 Science Fair

The Science Fair Club is designed to support students who are interested in developing a science fair project and competing in the District Science Fair. Students will receive guidance and support as they work through the process of creating and preparing their projects for competition.

Sponsors:

6th grade: Ms. C. Smith

7th grade: Mrs. Kulshreshtha

8th grade: Mrs. R. Smith
