Principal's Message

Dear Families,

My name is Yaschika Mims, and it is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the new Principal of Greenwood Lakes Middle School! Having previously served as the Dean of Students, it truly feels like coming home to our Eagle family.

Congratulations to our students, teachers, and staff for earning an A-rating! Your hard work, commitment, and care are the foundation of this incredible achievement. As we celebrate this success, we will remain focused on creating a learning environment centered on excellence and equity, where every student receives the high quality educational experience they deserve.

This school year, I invite you to be an active part of our community by volunteering at upcoming events. Please consider becoming a registered Dividend to support our students and staff throughout the year. Details about volunteer opportunities will be shared after the school year begins. We can’t wait to partner with you!

One of the best ways to get involved at GLMS is through our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and School Advisory Council (SAC). These groups are vital to our school community. PTSA helps organize events, provide classroom support, and foster school spirit through family engagement and volunteerism. SAC plays a crucial role in school improvement planning, giving parents and community members a voice in shaping the future of our school. Both PTSA and SAC need your ideas, energy, and support to continue making a positive impact.  I encourage you to join and make a difference!

Please mark your calendar for Schedule Pick-Up on Thursday, August 7. We will begin with our 7th and 8th grade students from 10:00–11:00 a.m., followed by 6th grade students from 11:00 a.m.–noon. I would also like to invite our 6th grade students and their families to a Popsicle Social from 12:00–1:00 p.m. in our Red Apple Dining Room. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow families, get to know the administration team, and connect with our PTSA.

Our summer office hours are 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., should you need assistance or have any questions. Enjoy the remaining weeks of summer break, and I look forward to welcoming you back in August!

Together in learning,

Yaschika S. Mims, Principal
As always…Let’s SOAR, Eagles!
